Pregnancy and IV iron infusion: risks, benefits and clinical decision-making
In her session, Pregnancy and IV iron infusion: risks, benefits, and clinical decision-making, the audience will learn why optimal iron status is critical during pregnancy and how to address the increased iron demands during pregnancy to ensure proper maternal and fetal health. Prof. Abdul Kadir will discuss the consequences of untreated iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia – from maternal and fetal/neonatal complications and postpartum recovery to long-term risks for the mother and child – and furthermore discuss how timely iron replacement therapy can reduce the need for transfusion and improve outcomes.
The talk will provide practical guidance on screening, diagnosis, and treatment, including an evidence-based review of oral and intravenous iron, giving the audience clear insights to support clinical decision-making.
